Psoriasis is an auto immune disease caused on skin that affects the life cycle of skin cells. Due to psoriasis the skin cells builds up so rapidly on the skin forming thick silvery scales and itchy dry red patches that are sometimes so painful. However Psoriasis is not contagious. There are five types of psoriasis: plaque, guttate, inverse, pustular and erythrodermic of which the most commonly occurring one is plaque psoriasis. It is seen as red and white hues of scaly patches appearing on the top first layer of the skin. Many millions of people around the world are suffering with the chronic disease called psoriasis. The cause of psoriasis is not fully known, but it’s believed to be related to the immune system and its interaction with the environment in people who have the genetic susceptibility. Scientists believe that psoriasis is inherited from one or more of the genes that create a predisposition to psoriasis. However there are many natural treatments for psoriasis which has been proved to work on many people. Some of the methods have been described below:
Ayurvedic Treatments:
The treatment for psoriasis in ayurveda is termed as ‘Panchakarma’. It aims at eliminating toxins from the body fluids. While undergoing every kinds of ayurvedic treatment, a strict diet regime has to be followed during the entire period and it is always better to continue as a vegetarian to attain the best results. Yoghurt, black gram, chilies and salted food must be restricted. The patient should try maintaining mental calmness.
Herbal Treatments:
Garlic – Garlic is a blood purifier and thus it is recommended to eat a few cloves of garlic every morning in an empty stomach. This will filter the toxins out of the blood and provide protection against psoriasis. Due to the sour taste a better idea is to intake garlic with buttermilk. Pregnant women and those who are suffering bleeding should avoid its consumption as it is very hot and penetrating.
Jasmine – Though surprising, the flowers of the jasmine have good healing effects in the treatment of psoriasis. The flowers should be crushed, made into a paste and is to be directly applied on the inflamed parts. Applying this paste reduces the pain and the itchiness of the psoriatic inflammations.
Neem- In ayurveda, Neem is one among the best blood purifier and detoxifier. It is good in enhancing the immune system and the neem oil is a very good antiseptic too. Leaf extracts of neem are used in antiseptics and can be effectively used in treating psoriasis. Applying the paste of neem leaves on skin might produce a burning sensation at first though later on reduces.
Turmeric- The powdered form can be used with food, or is available as capsules and as a dietary supplement. Due to the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric, it relieves the pain, swelling and inflammation associated with psoriasis, arthritis etc.
Other natural treatments:
Dead Sea Salts- This is a traditional natural healer. It not only completely clears psoriasis, but also results in lessening the subsequent recurrences of the disease.
