ROSACEA -Symptoms & Treatments

Rosacea is a chronic skin disease that mainly affects the facial skin especially the nose. It is commonly seen in women but it is more severe in men. It is commonly seen in people with light skin tones. It involves swelling of blood vessels under the skin which causes red patches on the skin. It starts with reddening of face which will ultimately lead to constant redness on nose, chin and forehead. In severe cases the nose may grow swollen and bumpy from excess tissue. It may also cause burning or gritty sensation in your face and in rare cases rosacea is found on arms and legs.

The main symptoms are

  1. Constant redness on the face
  2. Large blood vessels on the face
  3. Small pus filled lumps
  4. Red & bumpy nose
  5. Burning feeling in the face
  6. Irritated & dried eyes
  7. Regular blushing or flushing may be the first sign

The main reason for rosacea is still unfamiliar. The main factor is the dilation of blood vessels on the face. It is commonly seen in people who blush easily. It is also seen that hereditary factors also contribute to this disease. Also unhealthy habits like alcohol intake, frequent sun exposure, stress and spicy foods also promote rosacea. So try to avoid excessive sun exposure and also to apply sunscreen regularly while going outside. It has been proven that rosacea doesn’t spread by skin contact, sharing towels or through air.

Rosacea can’t be cured but can only be controlled by treatments. Formally no diagnosis is required for rosacea. But in severe conditions we must consult a dermatologist. He does a skin biopsy to diagnose rosacea. Once they are diagnosed there are many treatments available for rosacea. They include topical creams, laser therapy, pills etc. But it is better to opt for natural treatments. They are

  1. Niacinamide Cream– It helps in reducing the skin irritation and recuperating skins moisturization level. It is also available in tablet form.
  2. Apple Cider Vinegar– One of the best home remedy for rosacea is apple cider vinegar. It promotes the release of digestive enzymes and normalise the intestines bacterial balance. For your convenience it is available in both liquid and tablet form.
  3. Green tea cream– This has found effective for red lumps and enlarged blood vessels. It also helps in improving skin barrier and reversing the effects of ultraviolet radiations.
  4. Azelaic Acid Cream- It is very effective in reducing the redness and small bumps of the skin. It is also found useful against itching, burning and dryness. It also gradually reduces the growth of skin bacteria.
