How using a normal anti-dandruff shampoo ended up giving me more dandruff

I can’t remember a day in my adult life when I didn’t have dandruff. I remember being the girls with the long, wavy, and shiny hair that everyone envied and asked what special shampoo I used. The fact is I didn’t have a special shampoo. Well, not at the time anyway. It was just the way it was and had always been.

I really don’t know why things changed suddenly regarding the health of my scalp. Ok, so maybe it was sudden but it felt like that to me. Around my senior year in college, my hair changed and my scalp became sensitive and flaky. At first, I thought maybe too many haircuts and hair dye might have caused some sort of imbalance and things would go back to normal eventually. They never did. From those days, six years ago, to last month, I struggled to get rid of dandruff on a daily basis. As most people I know, I made the most common mistake to fight dandruff – I used a regular, anti-dandruff shampoo.

After years of not getting it right, I decided to see a dermatologist when I was able to afford one. One quick look at me and he knew I was struggling with a severe case of dandruff. One for which there was no cure but definitely were better treatments than the one I was using.

“What you need”, he told me, “is a shampoo that’s not so harsh to your scalp but still works as antibacterial. Whatever you’re using now is so aggressive that it’s the same as using carwash soap to wash your hair”. I was shocked! Had I been using harsh chemicals on my hair? No wonder it only got worse. Fortunately, there was hope and the amazing Hair & Scalp Doctor Antibacterial Shampoo.

As he explained to me, it was all about bringing my scalp back to a balanced state. So far my skin had only been reacting to the harsh chemicals in other shampoos and conditioners. The Hair & Scalp Doctor Antibacterial Shampoo killed bacteria, but it left the healthy skin intact.
