What are the Common Abnormalities Affecting the Skin?

Skin is the largest organ of the body. It is the visible part and covers all organs in our body including muscles, internal organs and flesh. The main functions of the skin include protection of our body from pathogens and water loss, providing sensation, regulating heat and excretion of sweat and urea.

Skin has three different layers namely epidermis, dermis and hypo-dermis. Epidermis is the top most layer made up of epithelium and does not have any blood vessels. It forms the protective cover for the body. Beneath epidermis is the dermis. The dermis consists of connective tissue. The sensation of heat, touch etc. is provided by this layer. The dermis also helps in excreting sweat as the sweat gland is also located here. Hypo-dermis is situated beneath the dermis. The main purpose of this layer is to connect the skin with bones, internal organs and muscles.

The skin has the tendency to support microorganisms and creates its own Eco system. These microorganisms will be in a constant number in the case of a healthy skin. Whereas a skin which is oily, there will be an increase in its production resulting in infections. Also, the skin should be properly treated and kept clean. The micro organisms cannot be removed completely but they should be balanced in order to protect the skin from getting infected. Oil, sweat, dead cells and the dust found on the epidermis mix up and affect the functions of the skin. This can damage the skin leading to various ailments.

Oily skin is capable of producing black heads, white heads and thickened pores on the face. Excess secretion of oil can also lead to troubles like pimples, blemishes etc. Under secretion can make the skin dry and the skin would be prone to create dry patches, wrinkles and various other signs of aging. These issues created by unbalanced oil secretion can be controlled and treated properly.  One method to control the excess secretion of oil from affecting skin is to cleanse the skin using natural face cleanser in a regular basis. Using creams and other oily products can help the dry skin to an extent. In some cases, these methods may not be just enough to control the oil secretion irregularities. In that case, you can consult a dermatologist and avail treatments so as to get a flawless skin.

Pigmentation is also one of the problems affecting the skin. Pigmentation means change in color of the skin. The skin color is maintained by a substance called melanin produced by the skin cells. When these cells are damaged, melanin production may be affected resulting in the generation of dark or light patches. This can also controlled by skin treatments.

In addition to these common abnormalities, ailments like acne, rosacea etc can also affect you skin affecting your physical, social and psychological well being. There are various skin treatments to protect and prevent your skin from any such disorder. Treating these ailments in the early stages will give amazing results.
