Yes, I\u2019m one of those girls who\u2019s been participating in pageants since she was 7 years old. I\u2019m 17 now and this will be my last year competing. My plan is to focus on College now and use the money I earned from pageants and saved to focus on studying.<\/p>\n
The funny thing is I was never that into dressing up or doing my hair and putting on my mom\u2019s makeup. I was pretty much a tomboy. But growing up with psoriasis was really tough. I was homeschooled for a long time because little kids at school called me leprous. I don\u2019t think they even know what it was! But because it hurt me to hear it, they would keep on calling me that. Dressing up for pageants made me feel like a whole new person and, besides, I could cover up my psoriasis patches with makeup and spray tan. That was the best! It was like they disappeared and for a couple of hours, I felt as normal as any other kid my age. <\/p>\n
Although makeup solved the problem temporarily, after the shows my skin would be irritated and the psoriasis patches would look worse. We had to find a way for me to continue the competitions without harming my skin.
